Arbutus menziesii Pursh. MADRONA. Pacific Coast of North America. The berries resemble Morello cherries. When ripe they are quite ornamental and are said sometimes to be eaten.

Smith describes the fruit as uneatable in Ireland, but W. Wilson says he can testify from repeated experience that the ripe fruit is really very palatable; In Spain, a sugar and a sherbet are obtained from it.
