The world of beans is huge, with 5 species cultivated in the ''[[Phaseolus]]'' genus, not speaking of [[Vigna unguiculata|''Vigna'']] and [[Lablab purpureus|''Lablab'']]. Both vegetables and pulses, they contribute a lot to our food supply. Their origin has long been the subject of [[Phaseolus vulgaris#History|controversy]], and the name itself of [[Phaseolus vulgaris#New questions|haricot]] reamins mysterious.
Le monde des haricots est très vaste, avec 5 espèces cultivées dans le genre ''[[Phaseolus]]'', sans parler des [[Vigna unguiculata|''Vigna'']] et [[Lablab purpureus|''Lablab'']]. A la fois légumes et légumes secs, ils contribuent beaucoup à notre alimentation. Leur origine a longtemps fait l'objet de [[Phaseolus vulgaris#Histoire|controverse]], et le nom-même de [[Phaseolus vulgaris#De nouvelles questions|haricot]] continue à être mystérieux.


Leur diversité est illustrée au travers de 57 dessins au trait de [[Haricot (Vilmorin-Andrieux, 1904)|Vilmorin-Andrieux]] (1904) et de 49 planches inédites en couleurs de [[Le Berryais, René|Le Berryais]] (1806). Ils s'appelaient alors nain Roi des beurres, flageolet nain Triomphe des châssis, nain jaune extra-hâtif, nain gigantesque, ventre-de-biche…

The world of beans is huge, with 5 species cultivated in the Phaseolus genus, not speaking of Vigna and Lablab. Both vegetables and pulses, they contribute a lot to our food supply. Their origin has long been the subject of controversy, and the name itself of haricot reamins mysterious.

Their diversity is illustrated through 57 line drawings of Vilmorin-Andrieux (1904) and 49 unpublished colour plates of Le Berryais (1806). They were then called nain Roi des beurres, flageolet nain Triomphe des châssis, nain jaune extra-hâtif, nain gigantesque, ventre-de-biche…
