Vernacular names

  • Indonesia, Malaysia: dawai-dawai, kuku lang rimba
  • Thailand: chinchee (Chumphon), dan rok, naam (Ranong).

Distribution

Indonesia (Sumatra), Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand.

Uses

The fruits are edible and said to be sweet. The wood is durable.

Observations

A strong vigorous climber with abundant hooked spines. Fruit an ovoid to globose drupe, about 1 cm in diameter, orange, minutely brown tomentose. Common in forests.
