" In the E Mediterranean region cultivated as a local grain legume, e.g. in Greece, Turkey, Syria, Cyprus, and/or as forage legume, rarely as relic crop also in other parts of S Europe (S Italy). The seeds are used as pulse or stockfeed. Obviously the recent cultivation is the remnant of a formerly much larger area, comparable to the situation of other Lathyrus grain crops. Written documents of the crop can be found in writings of the late antiquity." (Mansfeld)
