Cette espèce est le "vrai" salsifis, à écorce blanche, qui a été totalement remplacé dans le commerce par la scorzonère, à écorce noire.

Le nom arabe « debah el kheil » de Tragopogon porrifolius L. [1] laisserait supposer que l'espèce est nocive pour les chevaux souligne TROTTER (1915).

- ↑ La même remarque a déja été faite à propos de Catananche lutea ce qui semble pour le moins bizarre, surtout que TROTTER puis KEITH (1965) rapportent pour ces deux espèces le même nom vernaculaire arabe.
