Distribution
Originating from northern Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. Occasionally cultivated in Indonesia (Java).
Uses
Ripe fruits are edible, but not very tasty.
Observations
- Erect shrub, 3-5 m tall.
- Flowers and fruits axillary or cauliflorous, 3-12 together in cymes.
- Fruit a depressed-globose berry, 2.5 cm × 3-5 cm, pale yellow.
- Seeds numerous, very small.
Propagation by seed. Planting distance ca. 3 m × 3 m.
