Distribution
New Guinea, wild and sometimes cultivated.
Uses
Fruits are edible.
Observations
- Tree, up to 12 m tall.
- Leaves elliptic to lanceolate, 11-26 cm × 4-8 cm, subcoriaceous.
- Flowers white, stamens 4, 1 fertile.
- Fruit an obliquely subrotund drupe, much compressed, 6.5-8 cm × 6 cm, flesh fibrous.
- Seed labyrinthine.
In lowland rain forest along rivers and creeks, flowering from July to December, fruiting from November to January. Closely allied to M. gedebe , but species is badly known.
