Classification
Moringa is the only genus of the Moringaceae. It comprises 13 species, of which 8 are endemic to the Horn of Africa. Moringa oleifera is most closely related to Moringa concanensis Nimmo (also from India) and Moringa peregrina (Forssk.) Fiori (from the region around the Red Sea, the Horn of Africa, Yemen and Oman). These 3 species share a slender tree habit and zygomorphic flowers. (PROTA)
