Vernacular names

Distribution

Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia.

Uses

The vernacular names in Malaysia suggest that P. bullata is used there to treat liver diseases and as a tonic.

Observations

A shrub up to 3 m tall, young twigs covered with golden hairs; leaves lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 28-37 cm × 3-12 cm, deeply cordate and auricled at base, papery or thinly leathery, bullate, petiole 3-5 mm long, stout; flowers solitary or 2-3 together opposite the leaves, petals linear, c. 2.5 cm long; monocarps subglobose, c. 1 cm in diameter, stalk c. 0.5 cm long, 2-seeded. P. bullata occurs in lowland forest.
