Vernacular names

Distribution
Native to the Andaman Islands. Planted from India to Indonesia and in Madagascar.
Uses
The timber is used as narra.
Observations
- A semi-deciduous, small to medium-sized tree up to 25 m tall, bole straight, cylindrical, up to 90 cm in diameter, buttresses large, branches more or less ascending.
- Leaves 7-18 cm long, the rachis hairy, leaflets 5-9, elliptical to ovate, (4-)6.5-9 cm × (2.5-)3-4.5(-5) cm, reflexed at the top, sparsely hairy below.
- Pod long stipitate, orbicular or suborbicular, 4.5-5.5(-7) cm in diameter, smooth.
P. dalbergioides occurs in the Andaman Islands in mixed deciduous or semi-evergreen forest on well-drained sites up to 100 m altitude. The density of the wood is about 775 kg/m3 at 12% moisture content. See also the table on wood properties.
