Distribution

New Guinea.

Uses

The timber is reputed to be used as kelat.

Observations

A small to medium-sized tree up to 26 m tall, bole up to 45 cm in diameter, bark surface grey to red-brown; leaves oblong-ovate or oblong-obovate, 10-12 cm × 4.5-5.5 cm, with 5-7 pairs of secondary veins, petiole c. 7 mm long; flowers solitary, comparatively large, calyx tube truncate at base and slightly concave or flat, with 4 large lobes; fruit red when ripe. S. tympananthum occurs in primary and secondary lowland rain forest and in foothill rain forest up to 1500 m altitude.
