In Somalia cultivated for the production of an oleo-gum-resin (frankincense, olibanum), used as incense. The exuded resin, obtained from the trunk of the tree, has been used already in antiquity by Egypts, Babylonians and Israelites for religious ceremonies. Wild distribution: Southern Arabia, northern Somalia.
