Usages
L'Allamanda pourpre est un arbuste scandent à fleurs violettes décoratives.
This species is mainly cultivated as ornamental. It has been grown also for the production of caoutchouc (Palay-rubber) at the beginning of the 20th cent. (Mexico, Florida, Bahama-Isl., Jamaica, Honduras, Guyana) and during World War II (USA, Mexico, Central America, Haiti, India, Australia). The production of this rubber however is impaired by technical difficulties. A hybrid between C. grandiflora R. Br. and C. madagascariensis Bojer is characterized by an increased caoutchouc content. The fibres extracted from the shoots are used for making fishing-lines.
