Usages

Sometimes cultivated in Bengal and Assam. The somewhat sour, edible fruits are stewed or raw pickled (taste like olive). The related Elaeocarpus tuberculatus Roxb., Fl. Ind. ed. 2, 2 (1832) 594 from S Asia is reported to be occasionally grown as shade tree in India (for cardamom plantings). Wild distribution: E Bengal to Java.
