Usages

It is a floating water plant. In tropical Asia and America occasionally cultivated on ponds and canals. The plants are used as fodder for fishes and pigs, as manure, as shelder for aquacultures, and are medicinally applied. The leaves have insecticidal properties. In Africa formerly grown to produce salt from the ash. Worldwide grown on the surface of indoor aquariums as ornamental and shelder.
Wild distribution: Pantropical distributed, in extratropical areas sometimes escaped.
