Histoire

Usages

Anthistiria imberbis Retz. Gramineae. Africa. This grass grows in great luxuriance in the Upper Nile region, 5° 5' south, and in famines furnishes the natives with a grain [1].

In drier tropical regions from India to Australia occasionally cultivated as a drought-resistant forage grass. In South Africa it is used for reseeding of grassland. The grains are collected and eaten in times of famine, and the dry plants are used for thatching. Wild distribution: Tropics and subtropics of the Old World.
