Description

Oenocarpus multicaulis Spruce, des Andes du Pérou entre 400 et 1300 m d'altitude sous forêts dans les lieux humides, est un palmier produisant 6 à 10 tiges du même rhizome, les stipes ayant de 5 à 10 m de haut et jusqu'à 12,5 cm de diamètre. Les fruits sont ovoïdes, d'environ 2,5 cm de long et 2 cm de diamètre, de couleur noir-pourpré. La pulpe, mince, entourant le noyau oblong, sert à la fabrication d'une boisson de saveur douce.
